Say what?!

This past weekend while we were camping Alex and I decided to take a break from the outdoors and play his gameboy in the camper. We were laying on the bed and I was playing pac man while he watched. Out of the blue he says "Mom, what does lesbian mean?" Hmmm...wow botta bing botta bang....pac man is dead and mom is choking. Not that I have a problem explaining all of this kind of stuff to Alex. I would rather he hear it from me than from some kid on the playground at school. I just wasn't expecting that question to come out of his mouth at that moment in time so matter of factly. So I proceed to tell him about lesbians (of course the rated G version) and explained to him the difference between homosexual and heterosexual. I tried to keep it as simple as possible but with every answer there are ten more questions. Of course every time I said "same sex" or "opposite sex" or anything that had the word "sex" in it little fits of laughter came from his belly. The word "sex" is just hilarious to him and of course he KNOWS what it means! He really doesn't but he sure thinks he does!!! I'm sure that talk will come next!
On that note i'm signing off for the day. Here are a couple of pictures from Alex that really show how much he has changed the past two years.

Here is Alex at the park....3 years later at age 7. Wow what a difference a few years makes!

Fun at the Spring!

This weekend we had so much fun together as a family. It was actually the first time ALL summer we had gone to do something just the three of us. We had decided early last week that we were going to go camping at the Spring, which is a natural spring that is in the middle of nowhere. We borrowed Mr. S uncle's pop up camper and headed out there. When I say middle of nowhere I really mean it. There isn't even a bathroom, much less anything else, within a 1 mile radius. Friday night was very interesting to say the least. I don't think we fell asleep till about 2 in the morning because of all of the wild animals we kept hearing outside. At one point it sounded like the Coyotes were right outside the camper.....I think our imaginations were going hog wild!! Both Saturday and Sunday we spent the entire day down at the Spring swimming and playing. We found clay in the water and spent hours digging it up and building a dam. It was just pure clean fun! The dogs even had a good time! Hammie loved chasing the crawdads and Lucky liked jumping in the water. We can't wait to go back again soon!

Alex is getting ready to jump off the big rock into the Spring

There he goes!!!

Here he is eating (rather starring) at the HUGE piece of watermelon
Now that is how you eat watermelon!!

First Day of School

Alex started second grade today. It is hard to believe that two years ago we were walking the halls of the school for the first time looking for his Kindergarten class. Now he is a pro at this school thing and doesn't really need mommy's help. This makes me both happy and sad. I love that he's independent but at the same time it makes me so sad that my baby is growing up!! I am so excited for him. I can't wait to see what he learns this year. Plus, second graders are the oldest kids in the school. I remember that was a huge deal when I was in school. It was kind of a territorial thing. Needless to say this morning was very hectic and exciting!! After a quick shower Alex was dressed and ready to head out the door....of course mom had to take a few pics first! For some reason only one saved to my phone but at least it wasn't a total loss.
He even posed a little for the camera!

Back to the grind of things

Well I finally made it back from Florida last weekend. What a week it has been! My desk here at work is not visible because of the mounds of paperwork I have to catch up on. It is pretty overwhelming! I can't tell you how glad I was to be home. I missed my family so much and don't intend to ever be away from them that long again. My five day trip turned into ten so needless to say we couldn't wait to all be together again. Alex said "Mommy I almost forgot what you looked like!." I couldn't get enough of his sweet kisses and hugs.
I'm glad to report that my mother is doing so much better. It was a very rough and bumpy road there for a little bit, but for the most part she has made a full recovery. She was not a candidate for open heart surgery because her lungs are in such bad shape. They were able to place two stints and a third one will be placed in the near future. Considering that amount of blockage she had it's is just amazing to me that she pulled through. We were able to spend three days together at her house before I had to fly home. I really enjoyed those days together and looked at them like it might be the last time we were together. We enjoyed them to the fullest! I have had great intentions of posting pictures from our first trip to Florida. I will hopefully get those loaded this week sometime. Right now I just can't wait for the weekend to get here!!
Please remember to keep the Smith family in your prayers.
